New roles are emerging for well-trained people and new industries are set to expand. Technology, sustainability and diversity are all elements of our changing industry. While they might seem different and distinct from each other, they all provide an opportunity to build a fit-for-purpose maritime industry.

Mrs. Despina Pan Theodosiou

Despina Panayiotou Theodosiou is joint CEO of TOTOTHEO MARITIME, a leading global service provider specialising in innovative, efficient and functional solutions in the fields of digitalization, maritime satellite communications, automation and navigation systems.

Despina is a board member of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber and the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation. She also sits on the Board of Governors of the Cyprus Maritime Academy and the Strategic Committee of Crans Montana – Club of Ports.

She is President of Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association, an organization comprised of 46 National WISTA Associations. She has been instrumental to WISTA’s success in receiving consultative status at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2018.

Leading international shipping publication Lloyd’s List selected Despina as one of the Top 100 Most Influential people in shipping in 2017 and 2018. She attained a further credit as one of Lloyd’s List’s Top 10 Women in Shipping for both years.

She holds degrees from the National and Capodistrian University of Athens, the Copenhagen Business School and the University of Oxford – Said Business School.



Mrs. Birgit M. Liodden

Birgit is founder of the world’s first floating entrepreneur lab, a redesigned ferry, lead by an all-women team, and with Roberto Giorgi among her advisors.

Birgit has been a change agent for next generation & sustainable leadership in the maritime industry for more than a decade. She is the former Director of Nor-Shipping, Founder & Secretary General of YoungShip International, and Project Manager Global Systems & Processes at Wilh.Wilhelmsen. She was awarded WISTA Leadership Award 2012, and was among the global candidates both that year and 2019, for her work to promote women and the next generation.

Birgit holds executive board roles in The Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue, TheFactory Fintech hub, RS Sea Rescue Academy, GreenStat and Bellona Foundation. She is Working Chair of the Norwegian Organization for Electric Boats. She serve on the Executive Committee of Polytechnic Association and the advisory boards of REV Ocean, SHE Community and Southern Africa Norway Association. In 2018 she interviewed President Barack Obama, in front of 3000 business leaders, and had him talk about diversity as driver for innovation & sustainability. She has received a number of awards & rankings for her leadership in Norway and abroad. In 2018, she was among the 150 top finalists for World Economic Forum´s Young Global Leaders. She is also a U.S. State Dept. IVLP Alumn.
